PETALING JAYA: Give the Police some space!

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have urged supporters of the game to give the Royal Malaysian Police the time to conduct investigations on three national players - Faisal Halim, Mohd Akhyar Rashid and Safiq Rahim in separate incidents in May.

Their secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman hopes people would not make statements that could further escalate the current situation and cause unease among the sports fraternity in the country.

"It is very important for any team and their management not to make statements that could mislead the public or start a public trial when the incident is still under investigation by the police," said Azman.

"For example, the repeated statements by the Selangor chief executive officer Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon that he and some Selangor officials had received threats and that they might be the next target.FAM highlighted several other statements too.

"So we don't want such open statements because it will indirectly create perceptions that are worrying and may interfere with the police's investigation.

"I also want to advise the media, football fans and sports analysts to be more careful in making any comments related to this matter."

Many are questioning the police for taking a long time to nab the perpetrators of Faisal, who was a victim of acid attack at a shopping mall in Damansara on May 5. No culprits have been also caught in the case of winger Akhyar, who was assaulted and robbed in Kuala Terengganu on May 2, and former national captain Safiq who had his car windows smashed in Johor Baru on May 8.
