PETALING JAYA: The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) has yet to be used in Super League matches but the response from the clubs are generally positive.
Malaysian Football League chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam said they have received more positive feedback from the clubs regarding the use of VAR.
“We have made presentations to almost all the clubs regarding the implementation of VAR this season,” he said.
“The acceptance of VAR is more positive than negative.
“Implementing new technology also requires a longer time to adapt.’’
Stuart added that in addition to training sessions for operation, production, broadcasting and use of VAR by the referee, they are also testing the system in eight pre-season matches.
“I think it’s a careful decision taken to try it out in eight matches until early May to give time to the referees to make decisions very carefully.’’
The MFL planned to have a maximum of three matches on each match day when the new 2024-2025 season rolls out in middle of May as they now have four sets of mobile VAR systems.
