(Reuters) -Maurizio Sarri has resigned from his role as Lazio coach and assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello has been nominated to lead the team, the Serie A club said on Wednesday.

Sarri has been criticised of late as Lazio, who finished second last season ahead of rivals Inter Milan and AC Milan to directly qualify for the Champions League, won only two of their last eight league games.
