PETALING JAYA: It was a night to forget for Kelantan fans in Kota Baru as their team entered the record books for the wrong reasons.

The Red Warriors were involved in the highest-scoring game in Super League history when they lost 2-11 to Selangor at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru.

Their previous worst result was losing 0-8 to Terengganu this season.

And it did not stop there. The poor showing also saw fans calling for a drastic change in the management. In fact, some of them have set flares at the car park to show their fury and frustration over their team’s continued drop in form.

Kelantan now are set to be penalised by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for their fans’ unruly behaviour.

In the game at home, Kelantan started off well to take a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes through Nataneel Siringo Ringo (fifth minute) and Fazrul Amir Zaman (14th) but all hell broke loose after that.

Selangor stepped on the gas and fired home their first goal through Colombian striker Ayron Del Valle in the 41st minute and there was no stopping after that. Valle helped himself with another three in the 44th, 63rd and 87th minute.

Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye was also on fire as he scored a hattrick in the 48th, 78th and 86th minute.

Winger Faisal Halim, making his return after a one-month suspension, put in two in the 50th and 53rd minute.

The other goals from Selangor were scored by Venezuelan midfielder Yohandry Orozco and centreback Sharul Nazeem Zulphakar.

In just two weeks, Kelantan have conceded a whopping 29 goals in just three matches in all competitions.

Coach Alfredo Vera looked despondent after the match.

“Selangor were sharper. I cannot blame the players at all. They have given their all but they lacked experience,” said Vera.

“They are young and found it tough to read the game. We were consistent the first 30 minutes but after that, we lost the ball often and couldn’t control the game,” he said.

“These boys played against younger players in the past but now they had to face imports. It’s a different ball game for these youngsters.

“We can’t rotate players too due to our limited numbers. Nataneel is a winger, but he is playing as a striker.

“I didn’t get to prepare the players for a long time. I’m not defending myself, but I can’t blame the players too.”

Selangor coach Tan Cheng Hoe was delighted with the way his boys fought back after conceding two goals.

“My boys showed great determination after conceding two early goals. The reaction was amazing as we equalised and then got more confidence to get more goals,” said the former national coach.
