Pan-gon calls up 26 players for camp ahead of Syria and China friendlies


PETALING JAYA: National football team head coach Kim Pan-gon (pic) has called up 26 players for the Harimau Malaya centralised training camp at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya to prepare for the two Tier 1 international friendlies against Syria (Sept 6) and China (Sept 9) in Chengdu, China.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said Pan-gon had retained 15 of the 26 players called up for the earlier training camp in Kuala Terengganu in June.

“The remaining 11 players comprise seven from the March camp who were not called up to join the June camp, namely skipper Dion Cools and goalkeepers Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi and Damien Lim.

“(Also listed are) Darren Lok, Quentin Cheng, Brendan Gan and Nor Azam Abdul Azih and three players from the 2022 AFF Cup squad – Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar, Sergio Aguero and Nur Shamie Iszuan Amin – while Nathaniel Shio Hong Wan has been called up for the first time this year,” FAM said in a statement yesterday.

The team will undergo centralised training from Aug 29-Sept 3 before flying off to China on Sept 4.
