Harini face jumbo task in Kuantan but ready to give their all

PETALING JAYA: Can Harini pull off a shock in Kuantan today?

The odds are stacked against them but the M3 boys have nothing to lose when they take on Pahang in the Malaysia Cup round of 16 second-leg game at the Darul Makmur Stadium today.

The side based in Kuala Selangor have what it takes to overturn their 2-3 deficit because they have some experienced players in their squad.

They have ex-internationals and Super League stars and the result from the first-leg is not a surprise as they put up a great fight against the Elephants.

Coached by former Selangor and Petaling Jaya City coach P. Maniam, they boast players like strikers Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and N. Thanabalan, midfielder Nasir Basharuddin, defender K. Prabakaran and goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim.

Prabakaran said his team have nothing to lose when they take on Pahang.

“Yes, we are behind, so we are going to Kuantan to score goals. We see ourselves as the underdogs. We did well in the first-leg, which kind of jolted Pahang,” said the 32-year-old.

“I am sure Pahang will be more prepared to face us. Pahang are inconsistent in the league, but not all teams can win in Kuantan. They are strong in Darul Makmur.

“We have to be in good form and we trust in our own ability.

“They will be under pressure because if we score one, then the game may go to extra time. If we get a second, then it would be better for us. That’s why we need to go in with a determined mindset.”

Meanwhile, Pahang playmaker Sergio Aguero said they were ready for the fight.

“Harini have many experienced players, and the gaffer (coach) is good too but we want to get a win in front of our fans and get to the next round,” said the 29-year-old naturalised player.

“We have to be solid in defence as the opponents will surely look for goals to overturn the deficit.”
