Aguero pens thoughts on his new experience in Malay

PETALING JAYA: Naturalised player Sergio Aguero has warmed the hearts of Malaysian football fans with his Instagram posting.

The Argentinian-born, who was given Malaysian citizenship in September, penned his thoughts in Malay instead of English.

The 28-year-old thanked the Malaysian supporters for their loyalty in supporting Harimau Malaya regardless of whether the team won or lost.

He was commenting after Malaysia’s campaign in the AFF Mitsubishi Cup ended with the 0-3 defeat to Thailand in the return semi-final leg played in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Thailand advanced to the final on a 3-1 aggregate and will play Vietnam in the first-leg final in Hanoi tonight, followed by the second leg in Bangkok on Monday.

“We lost the battle but not the war. There will be more battles in the future,” said the Pahang striker.

“It was a difficult journey but quite meaningful over the 43 days we were together.

“The commitment and effort shown by the players, coaches and management were priceless,” he said.

He added that his teammates had sacrificed holidays and family time.

“It’s a very sad result but I believe every step we take will make us stronger tomorrow.

“I want to thank the fans for their loyalty. They never gave up on supporting us!

“You all are the best! The atmosphere of playing in Bukit Jalil was truly amazing.

“To my teammates, coaches and management, I will miss this team, you are all the best!!!

“I’m getting even more proud to be a Malaysian,” wrote Aguero, who managed to score two goals in six appearances for the national team.
