PETALING JAYA: Brazilian striker Bergson da Silva vows to do his part to ensure that Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) don’t end up disappointed for the second time in the Malaysia Cup final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

JDT were stunned 0-2 by Kuala Lumpur in last year’s final.

The Southern Tigers take on Selangor, knowing that victory will make them the first team in the domestic football scene to clinch four titles in a season.

They have already bagged the Charity Shield, FA Cup and Super League tile.

Da Silva said this is the best opportunity for JDT to erase the bitter memory of losing to KL.

“The team spirit is at the highest level this year and we were able to perform consistently in every match to end up unbeaten in the Super League.

“We are very happy with this success and we play like a family on the field in every game.

“Everyone knows it is not easy to be in the final and to win the Malaysia Cup but we will try.

“This is the best moment for us to make up for what happened last season because we don’t want to be disappointed and cry again, so we will work hard for this final,” he said.

Bergson has scored six goals so far, including one when they defeated Sabah 3-1 in the semi-final second leg to help JDT advance to the final on a 4-1 aggregate.

Bergson’s performance has been nothing but amazing as he scored a total of 39 goals (29 in the Super League and four in the FA Cup) so far.

He also believes that thousands of JDT supporters will fill the National Stadium to cheer them on in the final.

“I know JDT supporters will come to Bukit Jalil and always support us no matter where we play, whether it’s home or away.

“Hopefully, they will continue to back us like in other matches. The presence of supporters always gives us the motivation to perform better,” he said.

JDT have won the Malaysia Cup twice – in 2017 and 2019.

On the other hand, Selangor are making a bid for their 34th crown.
