KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) have condemned the violent action of their fans against the Selangor team after the Malaysia Cup second-leg semi-final at Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin on Monday.
Their chief executive officer Ab Rasid Jusoh described the action as uncivilised and uncharacteristic of the Turtles’ supporters, as they had been well behaved throughout this season.
He apologised to the Selangor team management and players who were affected by the incident.
“We would like to express our deepest regrets and condemn the unruly act committed by Terengganu fans on the visiting team’s bus last night.
“This incident has not only marred the club’s name but also given a bad image of our beloved Terengganu,” he said in a statement,
Ab Rasid said the club would learn from what happened last night and prevent a recurrence of the incident.
At about midnight, a group of fans hurled stones at the Selangor bus as it was leaving the venue, smashing its windows and almost hitting some passengers, including some young children.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of being involved in the unruly acts on the Selangor team.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said the suspect, who hails from Kuala Terengganu, was nabbed while hurling stones at a bus carrying Selangor officials and players to their hotel after the match.
“The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code (for committing mischief), which provides imprisonment for up to five years or a fine or both if found guilty,” he said in a statement.
Rohaimi also warned football supporters to be more responsible and not to disrupt public order. – Bernama
