JDT looking for boost from Red Giants tie ahead of FA Cup final

PETALING JAYA: It looks like Johor Darul Ta’zim coach Hector Bidoglio is using the game against Selangor today as a “confidence booster” before their FA Cup final against Terengganu on Sept 10.

He has been assessing every player during training sessions as he wants to pick the best 11 for the game against the Red Giants at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.

The Southern Tigers have been nothing short but sensational this season as they are unbeaten in 15 matches, winning 13 of them and drawing two.

Their top players have been Brazilian striker Bergson Da Silva and Argentine playmaker Fernando Forestieri, scoring 20 and 13 goals, respectively.

But their local players like centreback Shahrul Saad, midfielder Natxo Insa, winger Arif Aiman Hanapi and wingbacks Matthew Davies and La’vere Corbin Ong have been standouts with their industrious and match-winning performances.

Bidoglio wants the momentum to continue and knows that a result against Selangor would be a confidence booster before the final.

In their last Super League game, they thrashed Melaka 4-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

“We assessed the players on a day-to-day basis to see how they are, what they can improve on and see who fits best for the next game. In JDT, the best will start,” said the Venezuelan.

“For the game against Selangor, we will select the best and see what can be done before the final against Terengganu.

“For us, we want to continue the winning momentum and stay top of the league.

“We also believe it would give us confidence for other domestic challenges.”

JDT are top of the league with 41 points from 15 matches while Selangor are languishing in ninth with 16 points from 15 games.
