Four-team tourney to whet Harimau Malaya’s appetite

PETALING JAYA: The Harimau Malaya will sink their teeth into a four-team international tournament in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from Sept 20 to 26.

Malaysia have Thailand, Tajikistan and Trinidad and Tobago for company - three nations that are ranked higher than Kim Pan-gon’s men in the FIFA rankings.

Malaysia are now ranked 147th while Thailand are 111th, Tajikistan 108th and Trinidad and Tobago 101st.

Pan-gon is looking forward to the tourney, as taking on higher-ranked teams is the best way for his charges to improve their performance and quality.

“After qualifying for the 2023 Asian Cup last June, we need to continue to focus and look ahead. This will be a useful tournament for us before the 2022 Mitsubishi Electric AFF Cup in December as we prepare for the Asian Cup next year,” he said.

“Apart from getting good results in Chiang Mai, I also want to use this opportunity to refine the pattern and philosophy of our game.’’

The four-team international tournament is organised by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) and will be held at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiang Mai.
