PETALING JAYA: It looks like Selangor have bowed to their fans’ demand.
The Red Giants issued a statement confirming that Michael Feichtenbeiner is no longer the coach and will return to his former duties as sporting director, a post he held since 2020.
Assistant coach Nidzam Jamil will take over as interim coach while Selangor search for a replacement.
The club also explained why the German should stay on as sporting director.
“As Sporting Director, Feichtenbeiner has overseen the development of many young Selangor players who have been promoted to the first team and made it to the national team.
“To date, 19 young players from the feeder squad have been promoted to the Super League team, such as Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi, Sharul Nazeem Zulphakar, Hein Htet Aung, Alex Agyarkwa, Quentin Cheng and many others.
“Furthermore, 10 players from Selangor have been selected to represent the national Under-23 team. Another 13 have represented the national Under-19 team in various South-East Asian and Asian tournaments this year.
“Selangor are also one of the youngest teams, based on age average in the 2022 Malaysian League competition, and the club believe that this development project must continue.”
Nidzam was Felda United’s coach from 2019 to 2020. He had also handled M3 clubs Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam (SPA) and Air Asia in the past.
Nidzam’s first game in charge will be against Terengganu on Aug 17.
Fans have been calling for Feichtenbeiner’s head after the Red Giants won just once in their last five matches.
