Football: Harimau Muda top AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifying group

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Under-23 team are set to compete in the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan after topping their qualifying group with seven points.

They confirmed the spot after holding regional rivals Thailand 0-0 in the final Group J game at the MFF Stadium in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Sunday (Oct 31).

Before facing the Thais, Malaysia beat Laos (1-0, Oct 25) and Mongolia (1-0, Oct 28).

This will be Malaysia’s second appearance in the Under-23 tournament.

The Harimau Muda’s first appearance in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup was in the 2018 edition in China, where they went up to the quarter-finals.
