Giants’ DA knows the mountains he has to climb to be like CR

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s DA wants to be like Juventus’ CR and the lad has time on his side to follow in his idol’s footsteps.

Danial Asri (pic), 20, who was promoted to the senior squad after scoring seven goals in 11 matches with Selangor II last year, knows the challenges to become a superstar like Cristiano Ronaldo.

To get into the starting line-up for the Red Giants is already a monumental task.

Illustrious names like Ifedayo Olusegun and national striker Shahrel Fikri Md Fauzi have already proved their worth in the Super League.

New signing Shahrel was Perak’s top scorer last season with 10 goals while Olusegun is the Golden Boot winner with 12.

“Honestly, it will be tough, but a challenge I’m willing to take.

“They were on fire last season and for me, this competition is healthy for any professional footballer, ” said Danial.

“I have a lot to learn before I can become like them.

“From what I’ve seen so far in training, they are disciplined and hardworking.

“To be the best like them, I have to pick up their traits.”

And of course, Danial follows the exploits of the Portuguese very closely.

He has been doing it since he was nine.

“It was due to Ronaldo that I decided to get into professional football.

“He is 36 but is still able to play at the highest level.

“In terms of my career, I am on the right track as I’m now in the main team.

“I will work doubly hard to make my way up in the squad.

“My dream is to earn a place in the national team one day.”
