PETALING JAYA: A grandfather who is an ardent footballer and a grandmother who simply adores watching the great players in action. So, it is no surprise to see Maradona Chok being named after the late football legend Diego Maradona.
The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary-general said it was his grandmother Vera Vida Estrop who gave him the first name.
“My grandfather (George Chok) is a footballer and played for amateur clubs in Sabah. Maybe because he was fascinated with the game, my grandmother became an instant fan too, ” said the 46-year-old Maradona Chok.
“It was my grandma who named me Maradona. During my younger days, Maradona was my idol and I even played football for my secondary school SM Tshung Tsin. Because of him I wanted to play as a striker and I did so with my school team. But after finishing school, I didn’t continue playing football. Instead got into bowling.”
