PETALING JAYA: For R. Kogileswaran (pic), his future is so bright that he not only has to wear shades but also take an aspirin or two.
The 22-year-old Petaling Jaya City striker is in high demand and has a headache to decide on his future.
Although the Phoenixs want him to stay, the national Under-23 player has had offers from Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Kogileswaran did not start in many games but whenever he came on as a substitute, he made heads turn. And despite his lack of playing time, he ended the season as the club’s joint-top scorer with Brazilian striker Washington Brandao with four goals.
“I’m in a tough spot. So far, I’ve met with PJ City officials while the rest of the offers are being deliberated by my agent, ” said the former Pahang striker.
“I’m not sure if it’s a pleasant headache to have but time is ticking for me to decide. I will have to discuss with my parents before making up my mind. I will know by next week. That’s for sure.
“I want to make sure my career is heading in the right path and I need a team that can offer me that.”
And that is why Kogi does not want to rush into things as he wants to join a team who can give him the minutes and provide him the impetus to make the national squad.
“I also realise for that to happen I must work harder and play harder. It’s all down to me.
“At PJ City, coach K. Devan use me more as a super sub which I think I did not disappoint as I scored four goals this season.
“But I have big ambitions and I want to be in the first 11 in every match.”
