Selangor edge Melaka to advance to Malaysia Cup quarter-final

PETALING JAYA: Thirty-three times champions Selangor advanced to the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals of the competition after beating Melaka 2-1.

The Red Giants goals were scored by Ifedayo Olesugun in the 21st minute and Sandro Mendonca in the 52nd minute, while Uche Agba scored the consolation for the Mousedeers in the 57th minute at the Hang Jebat Stadium earlier tonight (Nov 8).

The Klang Valley outfit will next take on Kedah in the final eight, which is scheduled on Nov 12-13.

In another first-round match, UiTM managed to fend off Kelantan's fightback to win 3-2 at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium.

Arif Anwar scored a brace in the 12th minute and 66th minute for the Lion Troops with Rafie Mat Yaacob's strike in the 15th minute to set up a date with Premier League champions Penang in their quarter-final clash.

Muhd Danial Ashraf Abdullah's brace in the 61st and 63rd minute was not enough for the Red Warriors to complete a comeback win.
