PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are looking at scrapping the President’s Cup and Youth Cup competition this season due to uncertainties over the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country.

Uncertainty over dates for the controlled movement control order (CMCO), restriction by the National Security Council (NSC) on contact sports, availability of venues, financial constraints for teams and no mass gathering – are the reasons for FAM to consider cancelling both competitions.

FAM have suggested that the President’s Cup and Youth Cup competitions, which have reached the fourth round, to be consider null and void.

They also want the talented players from the President’s and Youth Cup squads to be registered with the respective Super League and Premier League teams.

FAM have also proposed that the 2021 President’s Cup age category to be increased from Under-21 to Under-22 and also starting the 2021 season this November if the Covid-19 situation improves.

The national body have sent circulars to the state FAs to get their feedbacks and suggestions on the matter.
