PETALING JAYA: Kedah coach Aidil Shahrin has warned his men to cut out the sloppiness in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals.
The Red Eagles crushed Negri Sembilan 4-2 at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar on Tuesday to consolidate their position as Group A champions.
They scored through Farhan Roslan (18th minute), Fernando Rodriguez (44th), Fayadh Zulkifli (78th) and Edgar Bernhardt (90th) while the visitors replied through Igor Luiz (34th) and Ferris Danial (66th).
Aidil said that despite the comfortable win, he is concerned with his team’s defensive record as they have conceded 10 goals in six Cup matches.
“We have to get back to the drawing board. The lack of care and organisation have cost us in the past. Even against Negri, we conceded two goals.
“We have to do something about it for the next game. This kind of inconsistency can be costly, especially in a knockout competition.
“Our opponents could score one goal and then defend.
“We have about a week before the quarter-finals, hopefully we can fix this problem by then, ” added the Singaporean.
The FA Cup winners now face a three-day wait to know who their quarter-final opponents are after the Group B match between PKNP and Petaling Jaya City which was scheduled on Tuesday was postponed to Sunday after PJ City players came down with influenza B.
“PJ City or PKNP, they will be tough opponents. PJ City have no big names but they are a gritty bunch and have created several upsets this season, ” said Aidil.
“In our last game against PKNP, the match ended 1-1. So, we can’t take things lightly against them too.
“I will watch the PKNP-PJ City game and prepare accordingly.”
