PETALING JAYA: The feel-good factor in the Pahang team has put a smile on winger Mohamadou Sumareh (pic).

Sumareh says the players are in high spirit after pulling off wins over Penang (3-1) and Perak (3-0) in Group C of their Malaysia Cup campaign.

Pahang face Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Friday (Aug 16), and many are expecting the Elephants to stomp their way to another win in the group.

Sumareh said the transformation within the team comes just weeks after they suffered a demoralising 4-3 defeat on aggregate to Perak in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

He said Pahang were playing with much swagger and hoped they would keep the momentum until the end.

"We’ve been scoring goals, and you can see the vibe within the team. That’s what the player wants. It feels good, " said the 24-year-old.

"Our coach has told us to fight all the way. We are serious about winning the Malaysia Cup this season.

"We'll not give up. The mindset is to win. No draws, just wins."

Sumareh said they would not underestimate Sabah, who won the Premier League title.

"Sabah have a good mix of local and foreign players. They've done well to earn promotion to the Super League.

"We're playing in front of their home fans and have to be focused. I reckon that it'll be an interesting match."

Sumareh’s combination with Nigerian striker Dickson Nwakaeme and Namibian striker Lazarus Kaimbi have been a delight to watch, and in the two matches, they have scored a combined three goals.

"In the Super League, due to Nwakaeme’s hamstring injury, I had to play upfront, and I was trying my best to adapt to it, " said Sumareh.

"In the Malaysia Cup, I’m back to my usual role as a winger, and it has been excellent. I’m working well with Nwakeme and Kaimbi in the last two matches.

"Kaimbi is beginning to show his true form. When he is on song, he is a beast. The things he does on the pitch is amazing.

"Also, his work rate is first class. He has been a good addition to the team, and I’m hoping that our combination will help us win all our group matches."

Pahang are leading Group C with six points, while Perak and Penang are second and third respectively, with three points.

Sabah have yet to collect a point from two matches.
