Kedah maintains unbeaten home record with 4-2 victory over Perak

PETALING JAYA: Kedah maintained its unbeaten home record after they beat Perak 4-2 in the Super League at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar on Saturday (July 13).

Perak, who were without key players like Leandro Dos Santos, Hassan El Dor and Amirul Azhan Aznan, drew first blood through captain Shahrul Saad who headed in a Firdaus Saiyadi corner in the 28th minute.

That goal woke Kedah up as they upped the tempo and got their reward through N. Thanabalan, who tapped in Fernando Rodriguez's pass in the 40th minute.

Five minutes later, Kedah's centre back Renan Alves scored the team's second goal with a powerful header.

In the second half, Perak were the much better side, but the impressive Abdul Hadi Hamid thwarted their chances in Kedah's goal.

A cross from J. Parthiban in the 78th minute hit the hands of Kedah left back Alif Yusof and referee Razlan Joffri Ali did not hesitate to point at the spot. Ronaldo Silva scored his sixth Super League from the spot to equalise for the Seladangs.

However, the Red Eagles had the last laugh as centre back Shakir Hamzah made a darting run on the left and unleashed a perfect cross for Rodriguez, who tapped in Kedah's winning goal in the 89th minute. To compound matters, Kedah got their fourth goal in injury time through Rodriguez.

The win sees Kedah strengthening their position in the top three as they have collected 34 points from 21 matches to be placed third behind Pahang, who have 37 points from 20 games.

Perak remain sixth with 30 points from 20 matches.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur is close to getting relegated after they were thrashed 4-0 by champions-elect Johor Darul Ta'zim at the Cheras Football Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Their goals were scored by Diogo Santo (28th and 70th minute), Gonzalo Cabrera (15th) and Nazmi Faiz Mansor (61st minute).

Kuala Lumpur remain bottom with 14 points, and will need to win the next game against Perak in Ipoh and hope that PKNP or Felda slip up in their final matches.

Other relegation candidates Felda United and PKNP shared the spoils at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium as both sides drew 1-1. Felda first took the lead to S. Chanturu in the 53rd minute, but PKNP fought back as Palestine international Yashir Pinto scored in the 81st minute. PKNP are above the relegation in 10th with 16 points, while Felda are in 11th, also with 16 points with one game in hand.

At the Shah Alam Stadium, Selangor showed no mercy towards Petaling Jaya City as they thrashed them 3-0 with goals were scored by Endrick Santos (42nd), Khyril Muhymeen Zambri (56th) and Ifedayo Olusegun (60th).

Selangor is fourth in the league with 34 points, just separated by goal difference with Kedah. PJ City remains ninth in the league with 20 points.
