PETALING JAYA: Is it viable to host the FIFA World Cup in the South-East Asian region?
This question will be answered during the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) congress on July 13.
FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said football associations and governments should have the same mindset to bid for the world’s biggest football tournament.
“There is a process. I’ve to discuss with all my members and see whether we can support the interest of our government in hosting it. We’ll discuss it at our congress,” said Hamidin.
Hamidin has met up with Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman just days after Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad announced that they were keen to co-host the 2034 World Cup with other Asean countries at the recent Asean summit in Bangkok.
