JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) moves one step closer to their sixth Malaysian Super League title in a row, after defeating Selangor 3-2.

The Southern Tigers took just nine minutes to open the scoring through Argentinean Gonzalo Cabrera's powerful drive from outside the Red Giants penalty box to make it 1-0 at Larkin Stadium here on Wednesday (June 19) night.

JDT then doubled their lead within two minutes after a quick counter attack put Leandro Velazquez through on goal, whose shot easily beat Selangor goalkeeper Mohd Khairulazhan Mohd Khalid to make it 2-0 in the 11th minute.

Selangor pulled one back when Mohd Khyril Muhymeen scored from a free kick to beat JDT’s wall and goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Marlias in the 41st minute.

In the second half, Selangor hopes of salvaging at least a point is dashed when Muhammad Safawi Rasid scored from a through ball from Muhammad Nazmi Faiz Mansor's pass in the 60th minute.

The visitor's misery continued when K. Sarkunan is given a straight red card for kicking the ball in anger straight at match referee Mohd Fairuzi Mat Desa in the 76th minute.

Selangor then were awarded a penalty after Ifedayo Omosuyi is brought down in the box where Sandro Da Silva make it 3-2 in the 88th minute.

In another Malaysian Super League match, Melaka United defeated Kuala Lumpur 1-0.
