PETALING JAYA: Terengganu Football Association (TFA) president Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has set a top three target in the 2019 Super League season.
Last season, Terengganu were Malaysia Cup runners-up, finished fifth in the Super League and crashed out in the third round of the FA Cup.
This season, the Turtles coach Irfan Bakti has bolstered the squad with quality signing Sanjar Shaakhmedov in midfield; retaining Lee Tuck of England, Ivory Coast’s Kipre Tchetche, Cambodian Thierry Chantha Bin and Igor Zonjic of Serbia.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is also Terengganu Mentri Besar, said the state government has set aside RM25mil to finance the state’s five teams competing in the M-League this season.
“The allocation will be for Terengganu (TFC), Terengganu II, Terengganu III, Terengganu lV and Terengganu V,” he said after Terengganu’s jersey launch and player introduction ceremony at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
“Our President’s Cup team need to retain the President’s Cup crown while our Premier League team, Terengganu II, need to finish in the top five and retain the Challenge Cup trophy.”
Besides the RM25mil state government allocation, TFA also received a sponsorship of RM4mil from their primary sponsors - Terengganu Incorporated, Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation (EPIC), Syarikat Air Terengganu (SATU) and Ladang Rakyat.
