PETALING JAYA: Gabriel Guerra is back to haunt defenders in M-League.
The 25-year-old Argentinian has rejoined PKNS FC to bolster the team’s strike force for the upcoming season.
Guerra is known for his exploits with the Klang Valley side when he scored 40 goals in 66 matches in all competitions from 2015 to 2016.
In 2017, he joined Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) to play in the Super League and AFC Cup and proved to be a valuable addition by scoring 20 goals in 41 matches in all competitions.
For Guerra, he has some unfinished business with PKNS.
“I’m happy to be back, and I want to help this club do well in the league. This is familiar surroundings, and I hope me and my teammates can do the best for the club,” he said.
To assist him, the club has also signed Cambodian international Chan Vathanaka, who played for Pahang in the 2018 Super League but left halfway when the club replaced him with former Canadian international Issey Nakajima.
PKNS head coach Datuk K. Rajagopal said both players would add depth in his squad.
“Gaby (Guerra) is a quality player with good leadership qualities. Last season, we were missing that, and his addition will only improve the squad. He knows this club well, and he has some unfinished business here,” said Rajagopal.
“Chan is a skillful player who will bring another dimension to the team. These players will surely boost our attacking depth.”
For the 2019 season, PKNS have so far signed Nicholas Ryan Swirad, Tommy Mawat Bada, Shafiq Shaharudin, Muhammad Ariff Farhan Md Isa, Mohamad Fandi Othman, Shahrom Abdul Kalam, Kpah Sherman and Mohd Farhan Abu Bakar.
PKNS finished third in the Super League last season behind champions JDT and Perak.
The club will kick off its Super League campaign by playing against Terengganu at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, Kuala Terengganu on Feb 1.
