PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur SEA Games women’s football team will undergo seven weeks of centralised training at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu.

Coach Mohd Asyraaf Abdullah has selected 25 players from the Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup national championships in Miri, Sarawak, last month.

They include players from champions Sarawak – Asma Junaidi (goalkeeper), Siti Rohani Sabtu (striker), Haindee Mosroh (midfield) – and runners-up Kedah – Nurul Husna Mohd Nazri (defender), Nur Shazwina Shuib and Siti Nur Azzati Shaik Maznan (midfield).

Asyraaf said that besides the centralised training from May 2-June 23, the team would also play a series of international matches against their counterparts in the region.

The women’s football team’s best finish was a silver medal at the 1995 Chieng Mai SEA Games.

They lost 1-0 to Thailand in the final.

The KL SEA Games will be held from Aug 19-30.
