PETALING JAYA: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar is proud of Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail’s achievements with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).
Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim congratulated his son for putting the state football team on the world map within three years.
“JDT is the pride of Johor. Congratulations to TMJ for where JDT is today. JDT is not only known in Malaysia but also around the world,” said Sultan Ibrahim in a statement posted on the Southern Tigers’ website yesterday.
The TMJ owns JDT, who won the Super League title for three straight years from 2014-2016 and the FA Cup last season. JDT also became the first ever Malaysian club to win the AFC Cup in 2015.
Besides JDT’s success, TMJ also won international recognition. Last month, he was invited to sit on the advisory board of the World Football Summit (WFS).
He also attended the WFS seminar in Madrid, Spain, last year. The seminar was attended by top clubs like Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and AC Milan.
Sultan Ibrahim also voiced his support for TMJ to contest for the presidency of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on March 25.
Tunku Ismail will contest for the hot seat with Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the former FAM deputy president.
“The TMJ, as a future ruler of Johor, must remember his role and duty to the people if he wins the FAM elections,” said Sultan Ibrahim.
