Newcastle stay top as Brighton ruin Zola's return

LONDON (Reuters) - Newcastle United maintained their slim advantage at the top of the English Championship after first-half goals from Dwight Gayle and Mo Diame earned them a 2-1 victory in their first-ever meeting with Burton Albion on Saturday.

Brighton and Hove Albion kept up their hot pursuit of Rafa Benitez's men as they ruined Gianfranco Zola's debut as Birmingham City manager with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win earned deep into stoppage time.
