PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Selangor (FAS) are ready to back Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) No. 1 post.
FAS vice-president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said in a press statement that Tunku Ismail, the owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), “is the best man to lead the national body”.
“The FAS are of the opinion that Tunku Ismail is the best candidate to fill the FAM president’s post. This is based on his active involvement in football and his success in transforming Johor football within a short period of time.
“FAS believe that Tunku Ismail has the vision and mission to transform Malaysian football.
“As such, we are prepared to back him up if he is keen to take up the number one seat,” said Subahan, a former FAM deputy president.
In August, the FAM executive committee decided to call for early elections, bringing forward the FAM Congress (election) from 2018 to 2017.
The FAM are expected to decide on the election date on Oct 10.
