JOHOR BARU: Show your loyalty – in good times and bad times.
Newly-appointed Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) president Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim has urged the Southern Tigers’ fans to stand by their team at all times.
The Johor princess, who has taken over the helm from Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, said that fans should continue giving their undying support to the team and players “no matter what the results ... even if the team don’t win all the time”.
“You may not win every game ... win or lose, your loyalty and support to the players are important.
“Sometimes, I realise that when JDT wins, everyone is happy ... but when we lose, suddenly everyone goes missing. This should not happen as there must be a sense of loyalty to the club,” she said at a press conference after a ceremony to unveil her as JDT’s new president at the Larkin Stadium on Thursday.
The appointment of Tunku Tun Aminah as JDT football club’s president had been announced through the Southern Tigers’ Facebook page last month.
The princess said that she would do her best to improve the club’s fortunes in the future.
“I was quite surprised with the appointment as president, but I will do my best to help the club move forward,” she said.
She also said that she would give more attention towards academy development, especially in finding young talents for JDT.
She is also considering suggestions from supporters to establish a JDT women’s team in the near future.
Under the leadership of Tunku Ismail, JDT have so far won six titles – local and foreign – since the club’s inception in 2013.
Last season, JDT became the first Malaysian team to win the AFC Cup. This year, they have won the FA Cup and are on course to win the Super League crown for the third straight season.
