Students put former top-flight players to shame with Premier League win

PETALING JAYA: UiTM FC striker Pavel Purishkin is in hot form with four goals in two matches in the Premier League.

The lanky Uzbekistan hitman led the club side to top the standings after scoring the solitary goal in their 1-0 victory over Perlis at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium in Kangar on Monday. Purishkin scored the winner in the 29th minute.

The former CSKA Almaty striker in the Kazakhstan Premier League was also on target in UiTM’s opening win when he bagged a hat-trick in their 4-1 victory over Sabah at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam last Friday.

For the Northern Lions it was a bitter pill to swallow after thrashing Armed Forces 6-1 in the opening game.

In an earlier game, Negri Sembilan turned on the heat after the breather with three late goals to beat DRB-Hicom 3-1 at the Proton Stadium in Tanjung Malim.

The home team took the lead through Croatian striker Ivan Babic (20th) before Negri bounced back with goals from Australia’s Andrew Nabbout (80th, penalty), Joel Chianese (84th) and Englishman Alexander Smith (89th).

New-look Kuala Lumpur are on a high, too.

The City side defeated JDT II 1-0 for their second straight win at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.

Brazilian centre-back Leo Carioca scored the solitary goal from the spot kick in the 66th minute.

Malacca edged PKNS FC 2-1 at the Stadium Hang Jebat.

The former FAM Cup champions led through R. Surendran (23rd) before the visiting club side drew level the score through Argentine Juan Cobelli (50th). But Malacca’s promising striker Nurshamil Abdul Ghani (74th) ensured the three points for the historical state with the final goal of the night.

In a high scoring game Kuantan FA defeated Sabah 4-1 at the Darul Makmur Stadium.
