PETALING JAYA: Coach Mario Gomez hailed Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) fighting qualities despite losing 3-0 in a penalty shootout to Muanthong United in the AFC Champions League second qualifying playoff in Thailand.

It was the second straight year that Super League champions JDT failed to qualify for the tournament proper. They were whipped 3-0 by Bangkok Glass last season and went on to play in the second-tier AFC Cup where they eventually emerged champions.
