PETALING JAYA: Australian Robert Cornthwaite is the first player to be axed by Malaysia Cup champions Selangor for next season’s M-League campaign.

The towering centreback is deemed surplus to requirements despite playing a key role in helping the Red Giants win a record 33rd Malaysia Cup last Saturday. The Klang Valley giants ended their five-year title drought by beating Kedah 2-0 in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium.
