PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will appoint an independent panel to select the national coach.
FAM deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad, who had been given the mandate to head the special task force to find a suitable replacement for Dollah Salleh, said that the independent panel would pick the suitable candidate for the hot seat.
“It won’t be me. I will not sit on the selection panel because I do not have the technical background. The panel will consist of qualified people with the technical expertise and they will appoint the new coach,” said Mokhtar.
The task force comprise deputy president Datuk Afandi Hamzah, vice-president Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman, executive committee member Datuk Junid Mohd Noor, National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive Datuk Ramlan Aziz, former national coach B. Sathianathan and FAM secretary general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.
Dollah resigned on Sept 4 – a day after the national team’s 10-0 drubbing at the hands of the United Arab Emirates in a World Cup qualifying match in Abu Dhabi.
Datuk Ong Kim Swee has been put in temporary charge of the national team.
So far, more than 30 candidates have applied for the job.
