We won't tolerate trouble-makers, says Johor police chief

JOHOR BARU: Police have warned that they will not hesitate to take action against trouble-makers when Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Terengganu meet in the Malaysia Cup quarter-final second-leg tie at the Larkin Stadium on Thursday.

“Police personnel have been briefed and will be on standby in case things turn sour as we have experience such incidents during other matches. We will not hesitate to take action against those who do not abide by the law,” Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said during a press conference at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.

Mokhtar warned both sets of fans not to create trouble – no matter what the result is.

“Go with the right intentions ... watch the game and be ‘gentlemen’ supporters. Don’t hamper other supporters’ opportunity to watch a good game,” he said.

Deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ismail Yatim said that about 1,000 personnel will be in place to ensure the safety of fans at the stadium and a few other locations during the match.
