Aussies to meet Thailand in repeat final

PETALING JAYA: There was a feeling of deja vu as Thailand and Australia set up a second straight final meeting in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship 2014 at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam.

In a repeat of last year’s semi-finals in Bangkok, the Thais overcame the Indonesians while the Aussies defeated the Vietnamese to march into tomorrow’s final.

Defending champions Thailand needed a late strike from Wanlop Pansomsua to see off Indonesia 1-0 in their last four meeting yesterday.

In the other semi-final, Vietnam twice came back from behind to force a 3-3 draw against the Aussies at the end of the 40-minute regulation period. However, the exhausted Vietnamese players lost 4-3 in extra time.

Last year, Thailand overcame Australia 2-1 in the final while Vietnam thrashed Indonesia 7-3 in the third placing playoff.
