PETALING JAYA: National Under-16 coach S. Balachandran believes his boys have the pedigree, character and discipline to lift the Asia Champions Trophy (ACT) when they face PVF Vietnam in the return-leg of the final at the Janda Baik Stadium in Pahang on Sunday (8.45pm).
The former international said that the four-month long competition had toughened up his players and they should be able to overcome the Vietnamese side.
The national team defeated PVF Vietnam 2-1 in the first-leg at Ho Chi Minh City last week.
“We have good all-round strength and I have tested all my boys during the four-month competition. They have improved on their teamwork, technique and tactics besides picking up valuable exposure.
“We may not have a couple of regulars for the final due to injuries and suspension but I’m confident the replacements will fit in well,” said a confident Balachandran at the pre-match conference at Paradigm Mall in Kelana Jaya on Friday.
The Harimau Muda Under-16 boys will be without sweeper Mohd Haify Haikal Ismail, who picked up a nasty knee injury during the friendly against their counterparts from Uzbekistan at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Thursday.
Skipper Mohd Shahrul Akmal, meanwhile, suffered an ankle injury and is doubtful for the final.
