Police to miss Ashfaq in crunch tie

PETALING JAYA: Premier League leaders Police will miss ace striker Ali Ashfaq for the top-of-the table clash against Felda United on Monday.

The Maldives international will sit out a one-match suspension after picking up his third booking during their 4-1 win over PBABB FC at the City Stadium on Friday.

Police coach Dollah Salleh said he wants to wrap up the season in style in the remaining three matches although they have clinched promotion to the Super League next season.

The cops have picked up an unassailable lead at the top of the standings with 49 points from 19 matches – eight points ahead of second-placed Felda.

However, Police need at least a point in their remaining fixtures before they can be crowned champions.

“We cannot take the foot off the gas until we reach our goal. It is a pity Ali is not available for this game because Felda are a strong side. They even made the FA Cup final recently,” said the former international.

Ali has played a significant role scoring 17 goals this season.

However, Dollah has an equally strong finisher in Brazilian Charles Chad and national striker Bobby Gonzales.
