FAM hand JDT a paltry fine

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) were given just a slap on the wrist for their fans’ unruly behaviour in the Super League match against Perak at the Larkin Stadium on Jan 18.

In the incident, Perak team manager Datuk Azhar Ahmad’s car windscreen was smashed and the team bus was blocked by the fans after the match. The fans also let off smoke bombs outside the stadium. JDT won the match 2-0.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) fined JDT RM15,000 and to compensate RM4,458 to Azhar for the damages to his car on Friday.

Ednan Othman, the deputy chairman of the FAM disciplinary committee, said on Friday that JDT were found guilty of three charges, including the lack of security.

“The minimum fine is RM50,000 for the offence but we took into consideration that this was the first game of the season and JDT had pleaded guilty of all the three charges,” said Ednan.

He said that even though the incident had taken place outside the stadium, it was still the responsibility of the home team to provide adequate security.

The Kelantan FA (Kafa) were also fined RM15,000 for their fans’ unruly behaviour and the lack of security during their Super League against Sime Darby FC at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Jan 18.

During the game, the fans burned flash cards and abused FAM with foul language.
