JOHOR BARU: Three players saw red as Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) put aside the Larkin Stadium tunnel fiasco to beat Kedah 3-1 in the FA Cup quarter-final first-leg tie.
JDT, playing without influential midfielder Pablo Aimar, got their goals last night through Mohd Amri Yahyah (14th minute), Singapore midfielder Hariss Harun (18th) and Luciano Figueroa (90th). Kedah replied through Billy Mehmet in the 23rd minute.
But the game was marred by the three send-offs. JDT leftback Mohd Fazly Mazlan was the first to be sent for an early shower after receiving a straight red card for fouling Mohd Khyril Muhymeen in the 71st minute.
Kedah skipper Baddrol Bakhtiar followed suit for a second bookable offence four minutes later.
Kedah were then reduced to nine men when Mohd Syazwan Zainon was given his marching orders for a second yellow card in the 83rd minute.
JDT looked the sharper of the two teams, especially in the first 10 minutes.
And it was no surprise when Amri scored in the 14th minute off a free-kick by Mahali Jasuli.
Mahali played the role of provider when he sent in a teasing cross from the right for Hariss to nod home in the 18th minute.
Although Kedah pulled one back through Mehmet, Argentina’s Figueroa restored their two-goal cushion.
JDT are trying to go one better than last season, when they lost to Kelantan in the final.
