PETALING JAYA: They may no longer be known as Pos Malaysia, but you can count on DRB-Hicom FC to retain the same footballing philosophy that saw them finish sixth in the Premier League last season.
Now, into their fifth season, the team aim to do better than that.
The team have incorporated a bee into their logo, which was designed by patron and DRB-Hicom Bhd group managing director Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil, and are hoping that the other teams in the Premier League will feel their sting.
Coach G. Torairaju, now into his third season with his team, believes they can do better than last season although they haven’t spent as much as the other teams.
The team, who have lost nine players from last season, have strengthened their side with the signing of three foreigners – Japan’s Shotaro Hattori and Nigerians Iyanul Ezekiel Ogunboye and Kazeem Adeolu Atapa,
“In my two years with the team, the players have always shown good discipline and worked hard. I believe these are the qualities which will take us far,” said former international Torairaju on Friday.
“My target for the team this year is to qualify automatically for the Malaysia Cup. The other teams in the Premier League have splurged but I’m not worried. If we keep working hard, we can reach our target for this season.”
DRB-HICOM will kick off their campaign in the M-League with an FA Cup first round match against Super League side Lions XII at the Bishan Stadium on Jan 21. Then, three days later, they will begin their campaign in the 12-team Premier League with an away game against Negri Sembilan in Paroi.
