PETALING JAYA: Malaysia registered their first win in the AFC Under-16 qualifying round at the New Laos Stadium in Vientiane when they whipped Brunei 8-0 in a Group H match on Monday.
The Malaysians, coached by S. Balachandran, were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Laos in their opening match on Saturday. Malaysia will enjoy a three-day break before facing favourites South Korea on Friday. Malaysia will meet Guam in their last group match on Sunday.
A total of 43 teams, divided into 10 groups, are competing in the qualifying tournament. The 10 group winners and five best second-placed teams will qualify for next year’s Finals in Thailand.
