Kim Swee wants Harimau Muda A to end winless run

PETALING JAYA: Coach Ong Kim Swee wants the Harimau Muda A to end their winless run when they take on Sriwijaya FC in their final Group A match of the invitational Menpora Cup at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on Tuesday.

The Harimau Muda A, an Under-23 squad, started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Indonesian side Persib Bandung on Friday. On Sunday, the Malaysians went down 2-0 to A-League runners-up Central Coast Mariners.

Like Harimau Muda A, Sriwijaya are also without a win after losing both their matches.

“I hope for a good result but it won’t be easy to beat Sriwijaya. They have four foreign players and several naturalised internationals in their squad,” said Kim Swee. “We must maintain our discipline throughout the match. The key is to play to our strengths and not allow Sriwijaya to control the match,” said Kim Swee.

Skipper Irfan Fazail and centreback Mohd Fadhli Shas, who both missed the match against Central Coast Mariners, will be given a late fitness test.

On the defeat by the Australians, Kim Swee said: “Central Coast Mariners are a very strong side. I have to admit that we were beaten by a better team. It is a good learning curve for our youngsters.”
