Italy to play San Marino

ROME: Euro 2012 finalists Italy are to play minnows San Marino in a friendly on May 31 in Bologna, the Italian Football Federation announced on Monday.

The game comes a week before Italy play the Czech Republic in a 2014 World Cup qualifier which comes just prior to their departure for the Confederations Cup in Brazil, which runs from June 15-30.

Italy top their qualifying group with 13 points after five games, three points ahead of Bulgaria, who have played a game more while the Czech Republic, who have a game in hand on the Bulgarians are a further two points in arrears. — AFP
