TIME waits for no one.
Wendy Ng Yan Yee knows that and the diver, who just turned 29 on July 11, is hoping to get her act right in what is going to be her final Commonwealth Games outing.
Wendy is the second most experienced diver after two-time Olympic Games medallist Pandelela Rinong in the national team.
But a Commonwealth Games medal has eluded her in three previous appearances.
Wendy, who was only 17 when she made her debut in 2010 in New Delhi, will compete in four events.
She will feature in the women’s 3m springboard individual and mixed 3m springboard synchro with Gabriel Gilbert Daim.
It is in the 3m springboard synchro where Wendy hopes to come good. She will partner Nur Dhabitah Sabri for the second time this year.
Wendy-Dhabitah dived to sixth place in the World Championships in Budapest early last month.
“At my age, I don’t think I can continue until the next Games in another four years time,” admitted Wendy.
“I just hope to get a medal. The colour does not matter as I’ve been unlucky in previous campaigns.
“I think the closest I came to winning was in Glasgow in 2014 where I finished fourth in the women’s 3m springboard individual.
“I will dive again with Dhabitah and I hope to do better together. We had a short time to prepare for the world championships and hopefully, the Commonwealth Games results will be okay for me.
“The women’s 3m springboard synchro may be the best chance to get a medal,” said the Olympic springboard finalist, who took silver with Dhabitah in the event at the Indonesia Asian Games in 2018.
Diving started last night with the preliminary rounds for the men’s 1m springboard and 10m platform.
But Wendy, who has been in Birmingham for almost a week, will need to wait until tomorrow to see action with Dhabitah in the women’s 3m springboard synchro.
“That’s the first event for me and Dhabitah, so hopefully we’ll get all our dives right.”
Medal prospect Pandelela began her campaign in the women’s 10m platform individual yesterday.
