Asian Games CDM Azim: Don’t be harsh on divers please

Asian Games chef de mission Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi wants the divers to be given a break.

KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t be too harsh on the divers said Asian Games chef de mission Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi.

He was commenting on the seven national divers who were caught embroiled in an alcohol-consuming and partying incident during a training camp in Guangzhou, China, in February, and issued a public apology on Thursday (June 21).

“If we want people to look at us with respect, the discipline must be high and we should not do things that will damage our image and the nations image,” said Azim at the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) today (June 22).

“But at the same time we must take into account that this is a Chinese New Year eve celebration and many of the divers are Chinese. It was their raya.”

He added that it was unfortunate that someone recorded the event.

“The athletes have regretted and made an apology, and that should be the end of it, full stop,” added Azim.
