Vinokurov soothes dad’s 13-year pain by claiming white jersey

KUALA LUMPUR: Alexander Vinokurov had to wait 13 years to see his disappointment at the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) finally erased by his son, Nicolya Vinokurov (pic).

Riding for XDS Astana, Nicolya claimed the white jersey as the Best Asian Rider after the eighth and final stage from Tangkak to Kuala Lumpur yesterday, delivering redemption for his father, who competed in the race more than a decade ago but never managed to win a stage or secure any of the leader’s jerseys.
