Latecomer but frontrunner – Asadov takes ToP’s first stage

PETALING JAYA: Azerbaijan national team rider Elchin Asadov clinched a well-deserved victory in the 180.6km first stage of the Tour of Peninsular (ToP) from Dungun to Kuala Terengganu despite arriving later than most of the teams at the venue.

Asadov’s team were only able to reach Terengganu at 9pm on Monday as they had been competing in Turkey until Sunday but that did not stop the 32-year-old from clinching the win in 3’57:26 at Dataran Shahbandar yesterday.
