TWO sports programmes – the Archery Clinic and Sailing Clinic programme – will be held this month through the Penang state government’s Sports for All initiative.

The Archery Clinic programme will be held on March 21 and 22 at the SK Jalan Residensi field from 3pm to 7pm.

The Sailing Clinic programme will be held on March 17 and 18 at Pantai Bersih near the Butterworth Outer Ring Road from 9am to 5pm in conjunction with the KFC Penang Governor Cup Regatta 2020 (March 19-21).

State youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the Sailing Clinic programme will feature four sessions – two on the first day and another two on the second day.

He said the Sailing Clinic will be opened to children between eight and 14.

“We hope that this clinic will expose more children to the sport of sailing and help the state discover more talents.

“In this event, we hope parents can change their mindset and allow children to start learning about water sports at a young age.

“We understand that many parents may be concerned about their children’s safety but we hope that they will allow them to learn about water safety as they delve into water sports, ” he said during a press conference in Komtar.

For the Archery Clinic programme, Soon said participants would be able to learn how to hold a bow and take care of their own safety in the programme.

“Aiming techniques will also be taught.

“This programme is open to 120 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, ” he said.
