Misbun wants to bring back Malaysia’s glory days on the international junior stage.

The Datuk Misbun Sidek Badminton Hall will be built in Bandar Baru Setia Awan Perdana, Manjung, Perak, to help produce future shuttlers.

The six-court facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. It will be built by Taraf Nusantara Sdn Bhd, the developer of Bandar Baru Setia Perdana.

Misbun, who was appointed National Youth Development director last week, said the collaboration could help him “pass on his knowledge” to the younger generation.

“I appreciate the developer’s initiative to name the badminton hall after me. I will contribute through my efforts and knowledge of badminton via training and badminton clinics.

“This new urban housing area is huge. It would be impossible for me to not unearth new talent to be considered for the junior programme, ” he said.

Misbun has vowed to first put the coaching and training programme of youth badminton in order.

If he succeeds, Misbun believes he will be able to lead Malaysia back to its glory days on the international junior stage and subsequently, create a bigger pool of talent for the senior team. — Bernama
